Terpene Spotlight: Ocimene
Ocimene is one of the hundreds of terpenes that occur naturally in plants and trees, including the cannabis plant. All flora contain terpenes which are now being shown to have powerful medicinal properties. Combined with the equally powerful cannabinoids found in cannabis, most commonly THC and CBD, terpenes can amplify their effects.
It is a terpene found in cannabis but also in mint, mangoes and basil. It has a sweet herbaceous aroma with a bit of citrus and is used in the fragrance and cosmetics industries for aroma. Ocimene is a strong antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial agent. It’s also a bronchodilator, easing coughing and breathing issues.
It’s thought that it is found more commonly in sativa dominant strains than indica. It’s also commonly found in combination with the terpenes pinene and myrcene.
