High Artist Spotlight: Zach Hoskin

High Artist Spotlight: Zach Hoskin

Zach Hoskin is a visual artist and designer, born and raised in Canada, but currently living in Mexico City.

He is formally educated in civil engineering, illustration, and graphic design but not art; he discovered that one on his own. His work can be summed up as one big question mark and continual exploration of experiences in an attempt to absorb, explore, understand, and balance all of the little bits that make up this massively complex, painfully beautiful, and consistently confusing trip that is; existence as a human being.

His work revolves around the human face and figure, absurdity, color theory, travel, and trying to understand what defines the feelings of nostalgia and home. His practice relies heavily on process, and often times straddles the line between experimentation and strict rules and structure, but there is plenty of room for other bits and pieces to slip in from time to time.

His work includes a variety of mediums and techniques including: painting, graphic design, music, illustration, photography, words, and observation. He believes that most things worth learning are done through questioning, experimentation, process, and a whole bunch of failure.

His work can be viewed at zachhoskin.com, or by rubbing your wrists together three times and tugging gently on your left earlobe.

“Facepaint” was entered by Zach Hiskin during High Art 2019.
