High Artist Profile: Sophie Wright
Sophie Wright loves to recycle her work.
“All good pieces come from destruction and rebirth and destruction again. You roll it up, add a little extra and set it ablaze. Because that’s how you build on your own practice and your own state of mind. Art is a state of being, a sense of reality.”
This is a mantra that has always been weaved through her animations and pieces, and a mantra that earned her a spot in the top videos of High Art 2017. She is an aspiring videographer from the north of England, and this is her visual protest in favour of a substance so entrenched by creativity, as it opens the doors of perception. With a BA(Hons) in Contemporary Art and Illustration, she currently occupies her time working for a print shop with big dreams of travelling the world where she finds most of her inspiration. She loves colour. Sound. Anything that makes her ears prick up and her pupils dilate. She could only hope this piece, named for one of four mismatched strains sold to us from the dark web, has managed to take you to that place and impose complete sensual bombardment she finds in the most beautiful places as her life journey takes her there.
