HIGH ART 2020 SPOTLIGHT: CYAN GARMA
“Reverie”
Cyan Garma (@CyanGarma) is a Hawaiian artist currently based out of Southern California. They have been making art for most of their life and were inspired early on by graffiti, skate, culture, and surrealism.
This piece was an attempt at capturing a snapshot in Cyan’s chaotic head space. They worked on it intermittently for about a year and it turned into a time-capsule of their imagination. In addition to the characters, animals, and foliage, Cyan also included pink, yellow, and teal abstract elements. In an environment fully existing in their head, these abstract parts are meant to represent “glitches” or little “malfunctions” in their mental landscape. This piece was inspired by experiences Cyan has had in the past few years, their love of nature, and a general tendency to want to escape into their own world.
“Reverie” earned Cyan a place in the top 150 artists of High Art 2020!

High Art was created by Dona Frank and The Natural Cannabis Company in 2014 as a crowdsourcing solution to packaging design. From its humble beginnings, High Art has developed into an internationally-known art competition with thousands of entries annually from 100+ countries all over the world.
Each year professional and amateur artists create themed works through a variety of mediums to compete for $50,000 in prize money and to see their work featured on packaging, social media, at the High Art gallery in Santa Rosa, CA and displayed at prestigious art events, in the United States and abroad.
