Fun Activities to Celebrate Fall in Northern California

Fun Activities to Celebrate Fall in Northern California

While we’re not famous for fall foliage like New England, the Golden State has its seasonal beauty too. As the weather cools and the days get shorter, it’s time to embrace the best fall activities our part of the state offers.

Best Day Trips

The Coast – Fall is the best season at the Northern California coast; it’s when locals take advantage of clear skies after the summer fog and tourists have rolled away. The weather is often warm, the sky blue and there’s always fresh seafood to enjoy. Go beachcombing, fly kites or just admire our beautiful rugged coastline.

Lake Tahoe – The summer high season is over and now is the time to enjoy the warm weather and natural beauty of Lake Tahoe without legions of tourists and summer pricing. Take advantage of hiking, camping and other outdoor recreation before the roads get icy and the snows arrive. Enjoy affordable lunch at one of the many north or south shore casinos.

Best Nature Spots

Sacramento Natural Wildlife Reserve – If you’re into bird migration, you can view wondrous birds at the Sacramento Natural Wildlife Reserves and then shoot them and eat them, if desired. Activities include an auto tour, observation platforms, hiking/walking trails, photography and hunting.

Redwood National Park – Enjoy fall foliage and stroll among the giant redwoods in Redwood National Park in Crescent City. There are hiking and walking trails to enjoy and if you visit in November, you may even spot some migrating whales.
