One of These 6 International Charities Will Get $10k, Which Would You Choose?
One of the big changes we’ve made to High Art 2018 is the structure of the grand prize. Each year as the competition grows, we’ve increased the prize money, but this year we’ve done something different. The grand prize winner will still receive a whopping $15,000 (same as last year) but they’ll also get to choose a charity to receive a $10,000 donation made on their behalf!
We’ve selected six awesome international charities to select from. Which one would you donate $10k to? Leave your answer in the comments!
Amnesty International: Amnesty International’s mission is to support human rights throughout the world. They work to expose and stop abuses by governments and organizations such as torture and “disappearance.” Their goals also include ensuring all children worldwide receive a free education, ending recruitment of child soldiers and standing up for the rights of migrants and asylum seekers. They have also assisted in abolishing the death penalty in several states
PETA: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world. They’re dedicated to defending the rights of all animals and focus on animal abuse in four main areas: factory farms, laboratories, the clothing trade, and the entertainment industry. They also work to end the abuse of backyard dogs and the killing of “pest” species.
UNICEF: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works worldwide to protect and defend the rights of children. This includes helping communities in 190 countries to provide sanitation, immunizations, clean water, proper nutrition and education to women and children. They also provide emergency assistance through providing shelters and family reunification services.
Doctors Without Borders: Doctors Without Borders provides humanitarian medical aid to areas affected by war, famine and disease. The large number of primarily medical professionals work to ensure basic health needs are met, such as food and water, as well as to provide medicine and vaccines in addition to performing surgeries and other medical procedures. Doctors Without Borders has helped in areas such as Haiti, Sierra Leone, Serbia and Rwanda during historic events like genocide and civil war.
The American Red Cross: This organization provides emergency assistance and disaster relief both at home in the United States and around the world. They also conduct important medical research and offer blood services, providing 40 percent of America’s blood supply to hospitals and medical centers. They respond to a variety of emergencies from apartment fires to hurricanes, floods and earthquakes. The American Red Cross is also involved in helping military families and veterans.
International Campaign to Ban Landmines: The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) is a coalition of likeminded organizations dedicated to seeing a world free of anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions. They have a network throughout more than 100 countries working to eradicate existing landmines, often leftover from previous military engagements, and prevent the use of new ones. Princess Diana was a prominent supporter of this important charity.
