How to Host a Cannabis Tasting Holiday Party

If you’re looking to add a fun and unique element to your holiday festivities, why not feature a cannabis tasting? It’s easier than you think!

CHOOSE A THEME

Regional is an easy theme. Just select strains from a specific county (Humboldt, Trinity, Sonoma, Mendocino, etc.) or region (Emerald Triangle, Napa/Sonoma, Coastal, Mountain, etc.). But, don’t limit yourself. There are many themes applicable to cannabis tasting, such as flavor themes, indoor/outdoor, terpene profiles and more. If you’re having trouble deciding, talk to your local cannabis steward and ask for ideas! Of course, a theme isn’t required, but it does make it more fun.

SELECT YOUR GUESTS

Cannabis tasting is best done in small groups. Make sure all attendees are of legal age, are consenting adults and aware of the purpose of the event. Four to six guests is ideal.

CHOOSE YOUR STRAINS

It’s best to limit the number of strains to 4-6 per party. A gram of each would probably suffice for small groups or you can purchase pre-rolled joints, 2 per strain.

PROVIDE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

If you’re not using pre-rolls, you’ll need to provide a delivery method for your cannabis. Small glass chillums or pipes are an affordable way to provide personal paraphernalia and a nice keepsake for your guests. Or, go communal and pass a regular pipe. Alcohol makes an easy sanitizer for those who require it. You may also need ashtrays, pokers, roach clips and lighters.

HELP YOUR GUESTS KEEP NOTES

Provide each guest with paper and a pen so that they can take notes on each strain. You can create easy tasting sheets by providing a space for the strain name, strain information, flavor notes and effects. This will help your guests remember which strains they enjoyed the most for future purchase.

KEEP TASTING ORDER

Start with sativa and sativa-dominant hybrids and work down to pure indica if it’s on your menu.

DONT’T FORGET THE SNACKS!

Provide a variety of small bites, snacks and appetizers, both sweet and savory for when your guests get the munchies! Forgo the alcohol though. Some guest may have a very negative reaction to mixing alcohol with cannabis. Seltzer, flavored waters and fruit juices make great choices.
