High Artist Profile: John Haverty

John Haverty has entered High Art multiple times. What many people don’t know about his work is the sheer size! Each of his beautifully intricate pieces is illustrated on sheets as large as 28 feet long with watercolor and ink!

John was born in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in a seaside community on Buzzards Bay. He earned his BFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and traveled across Europe and South America before continuing his formal training at the Savannah College of Art and Design where he earned his MFA in 2015.

 Among his awards, Haverty is the Grand Prize winner of the Luxembourg Art Prize 2016. He has been selected for Jerry Goldstein Foundation’s 2014 Emerging Artist of the Year award and was also selected as a finalist by jury pick for Art Prize 7 in Grand Rapids. Haverty is a former finalist at the 2012 Illustrators of the Future award presented in Hollywood, California.

His paintings have been featured in a number of publications such as Hi-Fructose Magazine, New American Paintings, The Tulane Review, American Illustration, and MANiFEST International Drawing Annual. Haverty currently lives and works out of a studio in Chicago, Illinois.
