HIGH ART 2020 SPOTLIGHT: ALYSE FIREFLY

“Alchemy” (11x14in, Oil and gold leaf on panel, 2020)

Alyse Firefly’s (@alysefireflyart) work focuses on the delicate beauty of the relationship between growth and decay, viewing death symbolically as an awe inspiring process of rebirth. It is also important to her to shine a light one humankind’s oneness with the universe. She loves to explore the ethereal and play with the surreal with roots in classical realism. She was always drawn to painting because it is such a meditative process that allows your subconscious mind to meld seamlessly with the movement of the paintbrush. Each brushstroke carefully grasps at the ethereal nature of light finding its relationship with the shadow, finding the balance of warm and cool colors, and relating soft and hard edges. With each mark a bridge is formed and articulated in pigment, connecting this inner world of thought and emotion to the outer world, and invites the viewer inside.

She entered “Alchemy” during High Art 2020.

High Art was created by Dona Frank and The Natural Cannabis Company in 2014 as a crowdsourcing solution to packaging design. From its humble beginnings, High Art has developed into an internationally-known art competition with thousands of entries annually from 100+ countries all over the world.

Each year professional and amateur artists create themed works through a variety of mediums to compete for $50,000 in prize money and to see their work featured on packaging, social media, at the High Art gallery in Santa Rosa, CA and displayed at prestigious art events, in the United States and abroad.
