Canine Cannabis: Helping Your Pup’s Separation Anxiety
If you have a dog that suffers from separation anxiety, you probably have some anxiety too. Leaving your furry canine friend can be heart-wrenching, no matter how necessary it might be. Barking, howling and crying might be common or, if your dog is the passive-aggressive type, you might return home to any number of messy disasters. Digging, chewing and other nuisance behavior can be a direct result of anxiety or boredom. But, there’s good news! Cannabis can probably help you both!
Unlike humans, dogs only need a very, very small dose of cannabis and this should come in the form of products especially design for pets, not humans. Never blow smoke in your dog’s face to get them high! Instead, look for a high-quality edible product (made for dogs!) that can be safely and easily administered as necessary.
Be sure to follow the proper dosage, or better yet, try half of what’s suggested just to gauge your pet’s response. Give your dog the cannabis treat about 30-45 minutes before you need to go. Hopefully your dog will be comfortable and perhaps just sleepy enough that you can slip out unnoticed. The cannabis will relieve any joint discomfort, relax the mind and reduce anxiety, helping keep your dog calm until you return. With any luck, after several successful uses, your dog may be able to handle your departure without a complete freak-out.
