HIGH ART 2020 SPOTLIGHT: NICHOLAS CHARGE
“Witching Hour”
Nicholas Charge is a self-taught illustrator/artist based in Melbourne, Australia. After dabbling in acrylics and oils, he switched to digital painting using Photoshop and more recently Procreate, though quite often a picture will still begin with paper and pencil. His work tends to lean on the surreal and absurd, encompassing both the dark and light corners of life. He tries to imbue his images with both a sense of mystery and narrative – hopefully the viewer will be drawn in and begin to wonder what else may be happening just outside the frame. Whilst still a hobby, he has done some commercial work – most recently having one of his illustrations was recreated by Colossal Media as a mural in LA to promote the recent film ‚”The Gentlemen.”

High Art was created by Dona Frank and The Natural Cannabis Company in 2014 as a crowdsourcing solution to packaging design. From its humble beginnings, High Art has developed into an internationally-known art competition with thousands of entries annually from 100+ countries all over the world.
Each year professional and amateur artists create themed works through a variety of mediums to compete for $50,000 in prize money and to see their work featured on packaging, social media, at the High Art gallery in Santa Rosa, CA and displayed at prestigious art events, in the United States and abroad.
