High Art 2020: 3 Simple Ways to Stimulate Creativity
High Art 2020: 3 Simple Ways to Stimulate Creativity
The beginning of High Art is just weeks away and artists will have just thirty days to submit their best artwork for a chance to win a portion of the $50,000 prize money. High Art is open to all artists, amateur and professional, located anywhere in the world as long as they’re over the age of 18. Last year more than 4,000 entries were received from talented artists in 129 countries! As you can imagine, competition is quite fierce, especially when the grand prize is worth a life-changing $25,000. Winning pieces will need to be creative, skillfully done and with an eye for color and composition. Plus, it needs to represent our exciting, new theme of Magic!
High Art was created to showcase the inspirational nature of cannabis. Enjoying cannabis can free the mind from its conscious tethers and allow us to expand our thinking and consider new ideas. Many artists of all types harness this into compelling works of art, from incredible music and visual arts to poetry, theater and dance. We ask our High Artists to smoke, dab, vape or nosh their favorite cannabis strains or products and let the muse inspire their entry to the contest. But, since your work needs to be extra-creative, we also found five more ways you can stimulate your creativity and maximize your chance to win a High Art 2020 cash prize!
- Get outside your comfort zone. The first thing you can do to inspire new ideas is to get new information and have new experiences. Go for a walk in a part of town you never visit, take a road trip to somewhere new, read articles on topics you don’t know anything about, watch a documentary you wouldn’t normally watch; just expose yourself to something new and see what it stirs inside you!
- Immerse yourself in other’s creativity. Being around creative people and works is inspirational in itself. Visit local museums and art galleries, attend a community theatre play, go somewhere with live music or just find somewhere with incredible architecture or statues to gaze at. Let the talent of other people inspire your own ideas; don’t copy them. If getting out isn’t an option, there are dozens of online tours you can take of the most incredible art museums and landmarks in the world. Here are 12 World-Class Museums You Can Visit Online courtesy of Mental Floss.
- Flex your creative muscles more often. A lot of us feel creative in bursts and it’s natural to have periods where it seems like nothing is inspiring, but science says the more frequently we engage in creativity, the more creative we’ll become! Neuroscientists have a saying, “neurons that fire together, wire together,” and this means the more often areas of your brain are engaged, the stronger they’ll become. This holds true of everything from starting a new routine to our behavioral patterns. The more often you get angry, the angrier you’ll become. The more often you’re happy, the happier you’ll be! So, make being creative a part of your daily routine. Whether it’s coloring book apps, drawing, singing, painting, dancing, crafting, writing or just daydreaming and recording your ideas, those sparks will light all kinds of new ideas!
