High Artist Profile: Interview with Aica Art
Aica is a Japanese artist currently residing in New York City. She’s entered Natural Cannabis Company’s High Art contest two years in a row, placing third for her piece “Angels from Tears Ofelia” in 2016 and in the Top 40 for “I am Moth” in 2017.
Aica’s work reflects a purity and serenity in stark contrast to the fast-paced urban landscape of Manhattan. Her fantastical creations perfectly capture a magical inner place of creativity and whimsy. Aica’s art has been displayed in numerous galleries, art museums and exhibitions. She’s also the recipient of many art awards.

1. How did you find out about High Art?

2. What made you want to submit an entry?
I believe cannabis should be legalized for at least patients in need.
3. What was your inspiration and/or process for the piece you submitted?
Inner self-portrait.
4. What has been your personal experience with cannabis?
I personally think that medical marijuana should be legalized. It has been about three years and a half since my father died of cancer. If a medical marijuana had been available to him, at least in that last month of his life, it would have helped him; eased the pain, eased his stomach and would have stimulated his appetite. But all cannabis have been illegal since 1948 in Japan.
5. How has it enhanced your art or creative process?
My cats and daydreams.
6. What are your favorite strains or cannabis products?
I was born and raised in Japan and now I live in New York City, where cannabis is not legal.
